INITIAL CONSULTATION
Approximately 45 minutes.
We will conduct a thorough history, a postural assessment, check your range of motion and perform some orthopaedic tests. We use x-rays to aid our diagnosis so if you have any previous x-rays please bring them to the initial consultation. We may refer you to get some current imaging which is mostly bulk-billed and can be performed at your earliest convenience.
Motion and static palpation will be performed and skin temperature will be measured. Other regions of the body may require assessment as poor biomechanics of a limb can affect function of the spine. We usually commence treatment by making adjustments during the first visit and begin to advise on specific exercises and postural advice.
We believe that hands on skin improves our ability to precisely identify what spinal segments are involved and what direction the spine requires adjusting thus women will usually require a gown and men will be required to remove their shirt.
ADJUSTMENT: We use Gonstead manual adjustments. These are a very gentle and specific form of manipulation. They take many years of post graduate training to master and we are one of a handful of clinics using this unique technique in Western Australia. Neck adjustments are performed seated or kneeling and require minimal twisting. During the adjustment you may hear a small popping noise. This is gas being released in the spinal joint space. Some movement based massage may also be applied to the soft tissues.
STANDARD CONSULTATION
Approximately 20 minutes
We spend much longer than the industry average as we believe you should receive a thorough assessment on every visit. Each spinal segment is checked for movement, swelling, temperature and muscle tone. We can offer you a variety of tables or positions for your adjustments so that you are comfortable.
You won't have to sign up for multiple visits. Instead, we will suggest an individual schedule for your body and let you choose what frequency of care that works for you. The treatment and advise we offer generally lasts between 4 weeks and 6 months (which is much less than the average chiropractic practice) before we recommend a check up to maintain your optimal performance and nervous function.
Once you are functioning well and any symptoms have abated, we trust that you will be comfortable to refer our clinic to friends and family.
